After the upgrade to Windows 10, I noticed that the touchpad on my Acer 7551 was identified as a Synaptics SM Bus Touchpad. To the best of my knowledge the touchpad is an ALPS touchpad. When I bought the machine it came with an ALPS driver.

To do so, search for Device Manager, open it, go to Mice and other pointing devices, and find your touchpad (mine is labeled HID-compliant mouse, but yours may be named something else). Drivers Alps,Pointing 363.Device' Driver'10.2207.101.108 for'Windows,10 Anniversary Update 00,tpb,czech 011 free new y6ZhEtcTrNPXx windows su'.,64. Bit 873'Alps 013 Pointing 231.
The main reason why I want to use the ALPS driver is that it gives me the ability to turn off the touchpad if an external mouse is connected. The Synaptics driver brings up a generic properties screen that does not have that option. It does have additional features such as Moodpad, but if I fire that up it tells me that, to be able to use that I need a Synaptics Touchpad and driver !?
If I remove the driver and then install the ALPS touchpad driver and reboot it works fine and disables the touchpad if needed. But as soon as I reboot the system the second time Windows replaces the driver again.

In the Windows Update screen the Synaptics driver is already waiting to be installed again. (I am currently using the ALPS driver.) Another driver that is waiting to installed is a Canon printer driver, that for some reason seems to be installed pretty much daily. (Always the same version btw). So it looks like something is not ok with the Windows Updater.
Let me know what I can do to stop these repeating updates.

Overview of Apoint.exe
What Is Apoint.exe?
Apoint.exe is a type of EXE file associated with Alps Pointing-device Driver developed by Alps Electric Co., Ltd. for the Windows Operating System. The latest known version of Apoint.exe is 7.3.101.97, which was produced for Windows Vista. This EXE file carries a popularity rating of 1 stars and a security rating of 'UNKNOWN'.
What Are EXE Files?
EXE ('executable') files, such as apoint.exe, are files that contain step-by-step instructions that a computer follows to carry out a function. When you 'double-click' an EXE file, your computer automatically executes these instructions designed by a software developer (eg. Alps Electric Co., Ltd.) to run a program (eg. Alps Pointing-device Driver) on your PC.
Every software application on your PC uses an executable file - your web browser, word processor, spreadsheet program, etc. - making it one of the most useful kinds of files in the Windows operating system. Without executable files like apoint.exe, you wouldn't be able to use any programs on your PC.
Why Do I Have EXE Errors?

Because of their usefulness and ubiquity, EXE files are commonly used as a method of delivery for virus / malware infection. Often, viruses will be disguised as a benign EXE file (such as apoint.exe) and distributed through SPAM email or malicious websites, which can then infect your computer when executed (eg. when you double-click the EXE file).

In addition, viruses can infect, replace, or corrupt existing EXE files, which can then lead to error messages when Alps Pointing-device Driver or related programs are executed. Thus, any executable files that you download to your PC should be scanned for viruses before opening - even if you think it is from a reputable source.
